BTW, last post was not meant to be negative, rather helpful in what I’d consider with a used vehicle.
Another part of the equation is duty cycle. One can limp along an older vehicle that needs “stuff” done to it, just doing commuting or local driving. But the propensity for cost/failure goes up significantly when the same vehicle is pulling a heavy load, over the road, 100s of miles a day, middle of summer , 100deg into a headwind all day.
For your budget and mechanical aptitude (assumed), I’d find the lowest mile, best kept V10 Ford or 6.0 Chevy gasser you can get.
