We have a Rockwood (sister to the Flagstaff) ours weighs around 7800 with hitch weight around 900 - 1000lbs. We towed it with a 2001 F150 for many years. Did I enjoy it, not really. It towed it but was white knuckle a couple of times. It also put a lot of wear and tear on the truck. We mostly did close to home camping as well. Was just not a comfortable experience towing.
We were just in the market for a new TV and looked at the new F150's as this truck is also used as a daily driving vehicle to work and hauling kids. But after looking seriously at the door stickers of the F150's the axel weights and the cargo capacity we knew unless we ordered the F150 with the HD tow package we were going back into a similar situation. We decided to get a 2013 F250 and although we have not towed far away we have never looked back. We got the 6.2 gas and I guess with the newer engine I am getting about what I did on the old F150.
Just my $.02
