Cabin Filter

Is there any way to retro fit a cabin filter into a 2004 Super Duty? I'm assuming the newer models have a cabin filter, but I don't actually know that. My car has one and it is newer than me truck, so I'm thinking new trucks do as well.

In a year or two we'll be travelling a lot and I'd like to filter out some of the exhaust fumes we get behind. Up until now I've just been turning off the HVAC system at those times. But when it is really hot out, that isn't much fun either.
  • When you get in heavy traffic or behind vehicles generating a lot of exhaust fumes, change the HVAC to the recirc mode and it will start recirculating the inside air instead of bringing in the outside air thru the fresh air intake.

When traveling, if I see a lot of dust or smoke ahead or a car/truck puffing smoke I change mine to recirc mode before I get there to keep that dust/smoke from coming in the fresh air intake.
  • Looking on some of the Ford forums, it appears none of the older Super Duty trucks had a cabin filter. I don't believe a paper element filter is going to do anything to filter exhaust gasses. Have you tried moving the A/C from the outside intake to the "recirculate" mode to limit the fumes?
