You have close to 2000 lbs of payload before hitting max axel limits, 1700 on the rear, 300 on the front. Front difference is pretty normal for a pickup of ANY sort shape or form frankly. Adding 1000 lbs to the hitch along with you, you still have some room.
I would try it personally, make sure the hitch is setup properly etc. I was over the gvwr in my SW K3500 about 90-100% of the time by upwards of 300 lbs or so, Had 300 to the fa, 500 to the ra max. Never had what I would call a white knuckle issue that could be related to overall weight etc. I was also 3000 lbs over my gcwr, but an auto version would have been ok, manual not! BUT, every one I know with an auto, did worst performance wise than I did! not sure what is up with that.
I will admit, a 25 series would be better. As one of my personal rules of thumb is no trailer greater than 2x the GRAWR of the truck. A 3950 puts you at 7900 lbs. Your "Want" trailer is a bit heavier. not too far out of whack, but heavier than I would want, none the less!
