Well, I've decided to start the hunt for a new truck. Looking for 3/4 ton. Not hard over on manufacturer, but I know I will be evaluating cargo capacity as a key component, that's for damn sure.
Looking at the listed curb weight for my truck, in my config, the CAT scales were close enough to convince me that scale accuracy won't change the facts. I know Ive got too little truck for what I want. Could I get by? Possibly... do I want to be that close... Not at all.
Live and learn.. at least I got a smoking deal on my current truck, so I should make a buck or two on that to take the edge off.

Mike,
I think this is a good move. You can tell by running the numbers you are right on the edge and probably under. That would not inspire me to lay out $1000 on new LT tires or other improvements and hope it is better.
Sounds like you are patient and do your homework. There is no reason to think you cannot get a good deal on a 3/4 ton. You will be much more comfortable, less stressed and enjoy your vacations more if you are confident of your truck and not sweating the next hill.
Good luck,
Stu
