I think you will find all generic numbers are listed as "up to" or "maximum".
And yes, you are right - add "4wd, crew cab, diesel, high end trim package" and the weight of the truck goes up. The GVWR does not change so the Payload capacity goes down. Simple physics.
Want max payload, buy a regular cab, V6 gas, 2WD short box work truck!
No way a Manufacturer can come up with a generic statement that covers all possible permutations.
What number do YOU think they should use?
