don't feel to bad. Even 3/4 tons are suprisingly well below the quoted capability of makers ads. who buys the base model truck std cab, gas engine, short box 2wd for towing? A few, but add 4wd, crew cab, diesel, high end trim package and CCC goes down in a hurry.
I think you will find all generic numbers are listed as "up to" or "maximum".
And yes, you are right - add "4wd, crew cab, diesel, high end trim package" and the weight of the truck goes up. The GVWR does not change so the Payload capacity goes down. Simple physics.
Want max payload, buy a regular cab, V6 gas, 2WD short box work truck!
No way a Manufacturer can come up with a generic statement that covers all possible permutations.
What number do YOU think they should use?
I was referring to the "max towing capacity" or "max Cargo capacity" numbers quoted in mfg ads, and the vehicle shown in the ads has fine print stating that vehicle has optional equipment and reduced CCC or towing.
I agree, they can't come up with a generic number, however it would be good if they clearly stated that buyers will need to look at the yellow door sticker to see actual CCC.
And I don't think it would be hard for mfg to give a darn acccurate estimate of CCC and unloaded weight when you configure a vehicle online. Would be reall helpful in shopping. I suspect they could nail it within 50lbs.
