So, in my search for the TT that the wife and I want, I've been diligently trying to calculate GVWR, GAWR, Traier capacity etc.. etc...I've read quite a bit, and I thought I would be okay with my tow ...

The same in diesel form has about 600 pounds less give or take. The good news is that the GM 6.0, Ford 6.2 and Dodge 5.7 or 6.4 are pretty good long lasting engines.
X2 on the Gas if you're going 3/4 ton for more payload. However if you dig through some threads you'll find Ford guys quoting part numbers on F250's proving they have the same key parts as the F350 - that F250 CCC is purposely down-rated to keep it under 10K.
One thing I picked up from those threads is to look for a F250 with the camper package. Also last year when I was looking for my current TV, I found websites that can use the VIN to recreate the window sticker - great for verifying what options it was built with.
