Luckily I'm not at the max. According to the yellow sticker on our unit, it left the factory under 8k lbs. Given I know the weights of the wife, me, and the dog I think we're under the weight limits of my F150. Went through a turnpike EZ-Pass on the way home from the dealer and they had at us over the 15k weight class and that was dragging a full tank of water around. Max GCWR is 17k on this F150. Yes, I'm close but even at max calculated from the weights on both units, I should sill have a 2k lm cushion.
But everyone needs to run the #'s for THEIR configurations. My #'s wouldn't work for the family of 4, or even someone with more stuff, etc.
The problem I found when shopping for trucks was the F250's were either the light duties (5.4, wrong gears) or V10 with TONS of miles. All for lots of $. When you got to 2011+ they were darn near the price of a new one. And I didn't want a stripper model as the truck may end up being a DD at some time.
I lucked into the Max Tow F150. Dealer didn't have it listed as a Max Tow. But Ford's window sticker generator said it has it. The nearest F250 has 130k on it and was the same price.
We may upgrade but for now all seems to be working well.
