If you look strictly from a payload standpoint, the gas will always be lighter by 600-800 lbs or so vs a diesel version. Also remember, a leather setup will weigh 600-1000 lbs heavier than a stripped model depending upon the number of doors etc. If you can find a stripped reg cab, my 2000 C2500 has the same payload as my now sold moderate equiped dually diesel crew cab. both 2 tons over base weight per the door sticker.
