I haven't bought a fifth wheel yet but I've had a pallet of wood pellets (a ton) loaded towards the back of the truck and there was hardly any squat and it handled the weight very well. A 6.4 truck in my configuration has a payload rating of around 3300 lbs and it has the same rear springs and it only weighs about 40 lbs less at the rear axle empty. Both are obviously the same as a comparable 3500 aside from the rear suspension.
I personally wouldn't have any qualms being loaded up to the RAWR, but others have different opinions I'm sure. Unloaded the ride and handling is fantastic - very comfortable daily driver and family hauler.
Edit - by hardly any squat, I mean it was still tail high and in a raked stance. The coils really don't deflect much under load.
