As I understand it, the only mechanical differences between modern 2500/F250s and their big brothers is the suspension/tires/wheels. And that should be covered by the GAWR ratings.
Most modern RAM 2500s have a rear GAWR of 6500# while the 3500 has 7000#. Only 500# difference.
And with the 2500's empty rear axle curb weight of maybe 3000-3500#, that leaves maybe 3000-3500# of available payload on the rear axle.
