I know the thread has degenerated some. Found it interesting that the first handful of responses basically said "my truck didn't squat at all with my load, so I think I can carry even more". I sure hope those folks don't think that is the determining factor to decide whether their setup is safe or not. Wow... if that was the case, then I can pull a heckuva lot heavier trailer with my setup.
Im all for being fully informed when making a decision. Being armed with the FACTS, and doing the math myself, I feel far more comfortable. If I exceed any of the recommended factors, I do so at my risk, and by being fully cognizant of what Im doing. If my brakes fail to stop me in time because I was over weight, I don't think saying that the guys on RV.NET thought max numbers weren't important would fly.. either legally, morally or ethically.
I read this thread with interest, because Im thinking of upgrading to a Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel...Just because I can, and to have plenty of power and margin. That, and I've always been a fan of Dodge trucks, even though I currently have a GMC.
