Good Morning ; New Member New to truck camper , Just retired Wife and I Going traveling this winter leaving Wisconsin to Florida visit friend week or so then planning to head to new mexico , Nevada and any warm place . Can any body who may have done this give me any good info on camp grounds , We have a cat .

First tell us if you have multi-agency senior pass, or if not- get one ASAP.I did trip in this area 2 years ago and although Irma scared us from main Florida we had great time on Pensacola island, where state campground cost us about $10 with water and electric. Same in New Orleans.Do you have planned route?

Your topic is a little broad. We prefer state parks, US Army Corps of Engineer and other public parks over private. More nature, spaces not as close together and generally lower price. Most don't have full hook-ups but that's OK as long as they have electric. There are many such campgrounds throughout that part of the country and generally sites are not as filled as Florida. The cost runs in the $20-$35 range and half for Federal parks with a senior pass. Load the Park Advisor APP on your smart phone to find campgrounds.

I do not have a route yet hoping to get info Winter is coming fast I do not have senior pass . I will have to look into that, Every thing is new to me . Truck camped alot 40 some years ago looking forward to trying it again .Any held would be Wonderful .

We prefer open land camping on BLM and forestry land. There are no services, tables or bathrooms. Pack it in, pack it out. Free camping but we mostly enjoy the peace and quiet compared to regular campgrounds. Most truck campers are self contained and you can go a few days without needing services.You can find locations easily with a number of websites. Our go to's are free campsites.net, compendium and all stays.When we stay at pay campgrounds we like National, State and county parks typically avoiding "rv resorts" and the like where spots are small and rv's are lined up in rows like a glorified parking lot but to each their own. :)

You need to set your mind about camping in the wild, what in those states is not that easy v/s staying at campgrounds. When we drove to FL couple years ago, even in August and September overnight AC was a must, when running generator overnight is not always (good) option. Than not being familiar with the area, finding spot for boondocking was not easy, when finding campground took 2 minutes of net searching. Than with $10 senior pricing why da heck not?Point is that you go into prime touristic areas and finding a spot where you can stop overnight with no fee can be difficult, when in lot of those places impossible. Some areas allow beach camping, but with new truck I did not want to go into salt. Nice surprise for us was running into Silver Slipper Casino in Mississippi. Nice RV park and when you sign into cassino club, you can stay for free. We won $300 to top it, so really good memories.On bad side- we've got weaken up at 5 AM at Walmart in Georgia, where they did not allow overnight stay. The ordinance was targeting semi-trucks that for some reason used the parking, so they let us go.
