Camper on Tacoma

I have the stock suspension on my Tundra and added air bags for leveling. Rides pretty good, I think.

my 2016 with the towing package already rides like a hay wagon, I would hate to think how it would be with heavier springs. and with the bed being about 5 ft x 5 ft, hard to find something that would work. actually a tall cap with home made facilities would work as good as those no frills TCs.

I'm not intending to haul a camper with my Tacoma, but heavier rear springs and full set of Bilstein shocks are in my near future plans, regardless, as are LT tires, to replace the P passenger tires it came with.

I like a truck to ride like a truck and not squat way down when I load it. I upgraded my Ranger in the same way and have been very happy with its' heavy duty rear springs, Bilsteins and LT tires. :)

Hi what does your popup weigh ready to camp? I do like the very low profile your camper has. That will help keep it stable. My 2004 Toco carries a 2012 camplite 5.7 loaded 1100lbs hard side cabover queen. we have had no problems with our set up. Bill

The FWC and ATC are the only ones built with Aluminum frames.

They are much, much lighter than wood frames and not going to have rot issues - be more durable.

I got the works. Solar, Rear wall steps, two deep cycle batteries, Yakima roof rack, thermal pack, furnace, two Fantastic Fans, flush mounted sink + stove, two-way fridge, side dinette, has two 10# propane tanks, side awning, port-a-potty, hot water + external shower hook-up.

Mine, with all these options, comes in at 1260 lbs

The Palomino Brono (one of the smaller ones) - base - dry weight is 1678 lbs

The FWC barebones campers are very light indeed, and can easily be hauled by a compact truck like a Tacoma, BUT, very few people camp that way.

Most are expecting onboard water, appliances, a bathroom, etc.. All that stuff can be added to a FWC, but that also adds weight. Fully outfitted, they weigh the same as any other similarly-equipped popup.

Thanks! I am definitely a cheerleader for Four Wheel Camper. When I was looking at campers, my step-dad (67avion here) suggested I check out FWC. I did, made spreadsheets and compared the campers to other companies, looked at reviews and forums and made my decision.

The quality is excellent. I met Tom Hanagan, the owner, and got to talk with him a bunch at the Overland Expo. His philosophy on the company and their customer service are both excellent and unique.

Having this lightweight pop-up camper has enabled me to go in all sorts of places a heavier, or taller camper would have bogged me down. I do have OME suspension on my Tacoma - it gives me a little lift and helps with my confidence and comfort off-road.
