Camper pigtail was cut off !!!

Someone cut off the wires that plug into the trucks bumper connection. I have seven wires , how do I figure out how to rewire the plug so I don't burn up the camper and myself along with it? My camper is a 1987 SC polar anyone have a shematic , as I cannot reach Northland industries . I thank you in advance for your help. Harold the wires where cut are 2 reds one heavy Gage one smaller,2 whites one heavy one smaller,1 black, 1 yellow, 1 blue ,the last three are all smaller Gage . I have tried to find a schematic but keep finding trailer images can't seem to find one for a cabover camper .I'm not that savvy I guess.
  • another tip, don't ever let the camper pinch the pigtail between the camper floor and the bed. Don't ask. Luckily I had a 2nd cable laying around.

I’m not sure some of the above suggestions are helpful in figuring out the camper side of the wiring. My advice would be to figure out which wire is the ground first by using an ohm meter. It’s likely the larger white one. Then I’d take a fused 12V source and start touching +12 to the wires one by one. One will be the left turn, one for right turn and one for tail & marker lights at a minimum. The large red one probably connects to the camper battery to charge it, assuming there is one on board. If there is a battery on board, you can also use a meter or test light to see if the battery connects to the wires.

Alternatively, look for a wiring splicebox where there may be a chance to trace wire colors by also pulling a taillight out to access the wires.

X2 That is the safest and best way.
  • Thank you all for your help , I do appreciate it . Wiring to me is like a plate of spaghetti, puts my head in a spin.... Harold
  • Process of elimination.
Reds likely hot, whites likely ground, but not 100%.
Check continuity from battery +\- to reds whites, and others as well. Then you know which are hot and which are ground.
Then check continuity of the remaining to marker lights, L turn, R turn and backup lamps.
  • If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, a hitch shop will fix it in a few minutes for a minimal cost.

This is a good way to get over that. Just take it one wire at a time.

If you have a jumper pack you can use that as a power source for your testing. Once you identify the ground wire, hook the negative from the jumper pack to that. Make up a probe which can be as simple as a nail gripped in the positive alligator clip of the jumper pack, and start poking other wires. See what lights up. Put a masking tape "flag" on each wire and mark what it does.

I had to do this with my Palomino. It wasn't that bad.
