So, does one have to plan their road trip around charging stations? Is there an app that shows you where they are? I can't imagine heading out not knowing where the next charging station is, or having to actually decide my route based on charging stations availability. That alone would drive me insane.
I didn't watch the video or whatever is at the link, as EV's used for camping don't interest me. But, this conversation does.

Hi Welaby.
No. Not really. The car, (or in the case of this video a ford truck) knows where all the charging stations are. Just tell the car where you want to go and the car figures out the rest including all the charge stops, how much time is required at each, what the amenities are at each, restaurants etc.
You will also know before you leave what percentage of charge you will arrive at although we tend to build in an extra 20 percent for safety. I can't speak for the ford but this is what our tesla preview display looks like. I'll assume Ford has something similar.
This graph says a lot. This is a screen shot of our tesla display sometimes during our cross country trip with our little travel trailer. You can see I started the trip around 88 percent on the battery. The car expects to arrive at my destination with 30 percent. I don't remember this leg of the trip so not sure if the destination was a Supercharger or campground. You can also see I am presently travelling at 90 kmh, the cruise is set at 90 kmh, and the speed limit is 100 kmh (the car reads speed limit signs). You can also tell I am in trailer mode with the little blue trailer symbol and that all the lights and 7 pin trailer connections are good as it is blue and not red. I have a tire pressure monitor that is malfunctioning, (it cleared up with a reboot), it is 22 degrees celcius in the car and the air conditioning is on. You can also see it is 28 degrees Celsius outside and that my next turn is in 17 kilometres and it will be Quebec highway 20. You can also see that I am a little way into my trip as my battery is at 76 percent. You can also see there is someone in front of me and the cruise is keeping a safe distance adjusted for the fact that I am towing. Oh, and it was 1:31 in the afternoon. :)

Hope that helps.
John
