Camping near Asheville

Howdy,
Over the years we have camped at Asheville many times. Most of the time at Bear creek which has but a few long pull throughs that are next to a really mean curve on the narrow road that goes by the park. Dicey to say the least.
We have tried a few others but each has its own nastiness.
Do you know of a camp that has long pull-troughs that are somewhat level in the area? We have a 40'TT and would like a spot near the city if possible.
We head for Memphis Tenn after seeing my sis each year so the westward side would be even better.

TIA
Tom
  • There are pull thrus at Asheville East KOA. Not sure if 40' but call and ask. Sites are level and close to entrance of park right off Hwy 70. Easy drive into AVL by I 40. Friendly park and close to town of Black Mountain as well. There is a KOA West but have not been. They may have pull thrus.
  • Asheville West KOA has pull-through sites, but they are a bit short. Only way you would fit would be to unhitch and park your TV sideways. We have a 38' MH. Stayed there and had to park our towed sideways to fit it in the site. If you do stay there, try to get a spot closer to the clubhouse. The campground is close to I-40 and there is a bridge near the west end of the campground. Listening to the big rigs hit the expansion joints in the bridge all night gets annoying.
  • Second Mama Gertie’s. Very nice campground with some pull throughs and a great view.
  • mama gerties is one of our favorite campgrounds on the east coast
  • Looks good except they are already full. They said if I wanted a site to reserve a year in advance!!!!!! \\\

SO WHAT WOULD BE A RUNNER UP?????
  • We drive on to Waynesville and stay at Pride RV Resort. It's right off of the interstate on the East side of the gorge. Lots of pull throughs and a relaxing place off the beaten path.
