We have a 18 x 9 mat. We have one that does not kill the grass. A lot of places will only allow a mat that is easy on the grass.
Our set up goes...we put a small 3 x 6 white fold up table set at a low height against the trailer, where your chairs are. We use it like a coffee table and place our chairs on each side, angled. Another white fold up table is where you put your picnic table. We usually cook away from the awning, we don't want to get it dirty. We don't leave anything out, even the BBQ gets put away after it is cooled. Habit from camping in bear country.
