What’s wrong with being a tree hugger exactly? I’m one and I am not going to hide my love of nature and the environment because it’s become cool to mock people who don’t want to trash the natural world. That said, I poop and pee and dump dish water when I’m out camping because...it’s natural. Dish soap in small concentrations, buried in sand isn’t going to kill forests or grasslands. Per and poop contain nitrates and organic matter and moisture for plants and bacteria.
But back to the original question of this thread, it seems to me that the guys occupying a spot for weeks on end, but only physically being there for a day or two are the very best thing for the environment. They certainly have minimal impact, no?
