Can 4 wheel steer make a comeback?

ZF if making a push for their 4 wheel steering system in pickups. The advantages are obvious in the video. The obvious questions are lifetime costs, reliability and capacity. From what I recall the main complaints about the GM system 15 years ago was the cost. Surely ZF knows that and will do better there.

  • I can live without. and the piece of mind a solid rear axle provides.
  • I'll keep my limited dollars for something I actually need.
  • I remember seeing those Denali's around for a short lifespan.

For the record, we have no trouble driving the 4x4 we own now, it get us everywhere we want to go, and see no reason to pay extra for something that brings expense and one more thing to break and repair. We'll stick with the old standby, 6/0L and 4x4 PU with a bed and a hitch... Old-fashioned, maybe - but tried and true. Too many newfangled ideas eat your wallet and end up in the junk pile.
  • I remember GMC Denali pickups having 4 wheel steering If I recall correctly it was in the mid 2000's...my old boss had one. It was a sweet truck top of the line for its time but you didn't see many of them out there.
  • It will be a good system for the first time truck owner in a grocery store parking lot! Which is where the majority of trucks are used.

I wouldn't pay a premium for the feature.
Not a chance, too much complexity for limited usefulness.
  • Electric cars are making a comeback because of modern technology.
Maybe 4 wheel steering will do the same?
