To transport, in a vechile, with it loaded, a concelaed cary permit is required.
You'd need multiple CCP/CWP or whatever they are called in the states you travel in (the name varies by state).
Not all states honor each other's permits.
Google concealed carry permit reciprocity
No CCP is required in AZ - mustangglpExplorerYour legal when camped I wouldn't do it while driving California is very strick and laws are changing as fast as they can crank them out!
If you have out reach while driving you'd probably be legal as its a resident's but might cost you a ton of legal fees! Calif has a website you can spend a few days trying to figure it out lol. - BigfootchevyExplorerI believe lots of people carry shotguns in there truck campers. But I see no reason to have a loaded gun while I am driving, but when in the camper at night I see no problem with it loaded if that makes you feel better.
In Canada only the bad guys carry handguns so a shotgun in your camper makes sense. But if anyone asks you why I would answer to scare the bears.

Exactly why I love shot guns!
Its hard not to hear that sound if your trying to be sneaky & brake into someone place. - SkiingSixPackExplorerShotguns are legal in all 50 states. Thank God and our Founding Fathers. - Blanco1ExplorerI agree with NYCSTEVE:
it should be seen as cargo being loaded into the bed of the truck.
Yet in Ca.
If you have a mounted camper or shell on the bed of your truck its does remove the commercial value of the truck & takes away your commercial plates & weight fee's & then either way should still be considered non-commercial cargo?
Nor should a TC be considered a Motor vehicle, being the camper is as a trailer & not accessible from the divers compartment.
You would have to park the rig & get out of the cab & then walk back & open a additional door to a different area to access your weapons & unlike a class A or B MH that allows you to park & then walk back to your weapon or have your passenger hand you the weapon.
I have no problem keeping the ammo unloaded & in a different cupboard or whatever in the camper while I travel, but while boondocking, I would prefer to load it.
So are you saying that if I'm in my camper set up for the night & then load my shotgun with a few round & place it in my draw next to my bed its ok?
Whats to stop me from getting in the rig & driving at that point?
There must be a limit line?
Such as I have always heard if your drunk & get in your car to sleep it off, you can get a DUI because you had the keys on you & that showed intent to drive & so BOOM BUSTED!
So I remember when I was young I popped the hood & put my keys in the airfilter & closed the hood while I slept in the car to avoid the possible DUI.
Never got to test that theory to see how the law read it, but i felt it showed I did not plan to drive at that point? - nycsteveExplorer

Check your state laws regarding firearms. Most of what you will read here may only be someone's opinion.
Since your camper is also a "motor vehicle" you will need to abide by whatever the laws are for the state you live in.
For example, In Washington, weapons must be unloaded when transported in a vehicle, unless you have a concealed carry license.
