Can I drain my hot water heater with low point drain?

I know in my TT the low point drain is about 10 inches, and 'T'ed off from the water inlet of the water heater.

When I drain the low point, it will drain all but a very small amount from the heater. Pulling the plug will probably not drain much more since the plug itself is not much more off the bottom than the low point drain.
