Can I drain my hot water heater with low point drain?

I was draining my hot water tank tonight and I also decided to open up the low point drains after I finished draining the tank. So I started thinking, can I drain my hot water tank using the low poin...

OP --- try it on yours, then open the drain plug - see if anything comes out. :)
