Can I drain my hot water heater with low point drain?

I was draining my hot water tank tonight and I also decided to open up the low point drains after I finished draining the tank. So I started thinking, can I drain my hot water tank using the low poin...

I have a Passport, If I open up the hot water low point drain valve, the hot water will not drain untill I open the relief valve on the water heater, then it drains out..For the amount of times you open the valve, it wont hurt it, a few plumbers I have asked said exercising the valve is a good thing.
