Can't find TC meeting my simple need.

My present camper (hard side)shows signs of decay and structural failure. I've had it for over 15 years during which time it spends over 4 months annually on the road averaging over 12,000 miles per year. I travel well equipped for backpacking, fishing, hunting, prospecting, and long-term off-grid living - a LOT of gear. My present camper has an east/west convertible dining/sleeping area. This configuration allows me to use the upper bunk, and under the lower bunk for gear. Instead of a shower/commode there is a closet - also gear filled.

I want a similar floor plan/setup. My search has found no one offering a lower, east/west, bed for 2 adults (full size 54"x76" strongly preferred).

More specifically, I want a camper 80-86" wide; 8' to 8' 6" long; jacks on each corner; no basement (for lower clearance and lighter weight); no slide-out; no bathroom facilities; well insulated for winter/year-round use; appropriate refrigeration, stove, lighting, heater; desirable, but not absolutely necessary features include A/C, space for generator, outside shower; interior height about 6'6".

So, does anyone know of anyone making such a camper, or of a manufacturer able/willing to modify or semi-finish an existing camper (shell) to suit my need. If necessary, I'll consider a used camper.

Thanks
  • Take a look at Northstar Campers. Not so sure about the east/wet bed in the lower camper but I do know Northstar is more than willing to make custom modifications. I'd be very surprised if they aren't willing to build whichever model you choose with a closet instead of the wet bath. The floor insulation could be a little better in mine but that was easily fixed. The insulated windows are amazing at keeping the cold out. The biggest problem may be a generator compartment. Maybe you can talk Rex into building a box where the cassette toilet would be. Or, do like I did and build out a genny box for the front hitch.
