Look at the payload sticker on the door jamb. The payload you'll have to subtract from that is everything, driver, passengers, etc. except for fuel.
Good advice. If only I had a door jamb sticker to inspect. There is nothing similar to what I want at nearby dealerships, so I can only go by Ford online manuals and and documentation.
As I discovered, using the online specs from Ford at least was not very helpful. I am admittedly weight focused and wanted to stay with my numbers. My online numbers showed I had a GVWR of 4,250 for my 2012 F350 SRW gasser XLT. My sticker said 3,850 and my GVWR was 11,000. I believe if you move up the food chain into a Lariat and beyond, the difference between online numbers and your payload sticker will be greater due to the options.
I have a Hallmark Ute XL with a dry weight of 1,643 as I recall optioned with AC, oven, and electric jacks, so not a heavy weight pop-up by any means.
When we load to head West from Northeast TN. for extended travel (five months), if we fill the water tank, we are 80 pounds over on our rear axle (CAT Scale). although still a couple of hundred pounds under our GW, so you can be within your GW and still overweight on an axle.
As has been suggested staying within your numbers is not an easy thing to do and camper choices, particularly for SRW trucks are limited, in my opinion.
