Less weight = less braking force but life is always more complicated and you if you have vehicle with inadequate brakes, you will will have poor results.
My 16 tons bus conversion was stopping better than my 4 tons truck.
I see this becomes million and one topic where real cargo capacity subject is hijacked by taxation sticker readers.
