Less weight = less braking force but life is always more complicated and you if you have vehicle with inadequate brakes, you will will have poor results.
My 16 tons bus conversion was stopping better than my 4 tons truck.
I see this becomes million and one topic where real cargo capacity subject is hijacked by taxation sticker readers.

Yes but, in apples to apples comparison, F still = MA, so same truck, same brakes, one is lighter weight due to gas engine, gasser will stop quicker until the top end of traction.
Then if there's still more braking force available, the diesel will continue stopping when the gasser locks em up and starts sliding.
Lighter is better within the limits of traction, not the other way around.
