Mine clears straight down also, which is why I've never considered it an issue. At some point during the stay the hose got pulled, crossing it directly in front of the vent. I can only assume one of my boys caught the hose with their foot (which is why they're not supposed to be back there).
Another words, if it had remained how I had it I would've been OK, even with the 90, like every other time I've used it for the last three years. Both pics I posted were after I straightened it back down. When I found it the hose was at a 45.
