What I did for TT towing when I had my 89 F250 was experiment. 1 trip same location open bed, next trip with cap saw no real difference. On my PSD I didnt want a cap (dont want a station wagon) but also dont want a bed without a cross bed box. So I went to crailgs list and bought a fiberglass short bed cover. Measured the truck box took it out, put the cover on and measured to where the tool box stopped marked and cut the cover. Reinstalled the truck box made a forward hinge for the cover and have best of both worlds . truck box to carry stuff up out of bed, a secure cover over the remainder of the bed. Found an after market bed extender at a garage sale got the pieces that were missing installed and now can keep luggage etc at rear in secured area. But mine is a long bed yours is short. You could do same thing if need be but dont know if you like the truck box or not. got the cover I think it was $150 bought some hinges at home depot (chrome door) and put them in place. If I need to take cover off take hinge pins out and remover the cover, but this truck is the family travel car and I haul everything else in my ranger if its trash etc. Just an idea for ya. You could hinge one of these in the middle if ya wanted, Some fiberglass work required for the seal joint but no biggie.
