"Try to sell used STs.... LOL."
Ya know what's scary.....I haven't had any trouble selling st tires!!!!!
I took the first set of 14 yr old Marathons off my FW when I bought it and a guy on CL bought them for a trailer to carry a Bobcat for his farm. The second set 3 Carlisle hr were 4 yr old decent and a 10 yr old HR and some other brand that was the spare which was 14 yr old $200. He was putting them on a hod rod or classic car trailer.
I told the woman I bought the FW from that it needed new tires and she was surprised and said there is nothing wrong with those tires we never had any trouble with them. They pulled it twice a summer to camp with local family. I pulled it 40 miles home with my fingers crossed.
Great news people! Now you can run ST tires really cheap. Don't let the tire shop keep your old ones. Keep them and sell them to defray the cost of your new ST tires.
I messed up. Sorry. I should have also said that these are all on wheels. Maybe not the prettiest wheels and rusted but yes, that's what I sold them for. In both cases we went with 16 inch wheels. I'll fix my other post.
When people are faced with having to do an axle flip I usually suggest that it's a good time to consider going to 16's as an upgrade and providing a little lift. If you have decent looking used tires with no cracks I would never leave them at the dealer and would also ask if they would knock the tire disposal fee off and then sell them on CL.
I have also seen new utility trailers with used tires on them so they must be buying them from the tire dealers. They cant just scrounge up that many used tires. I think it's very common for people to put used tires on a utility type trailer. Unlike us who punish our tires on long distance rv travel most people dont even know what a date code is or that there are trailer tires vs passenger tires.
These may look new and that's good enough for some. $45 each
The five 14 yr old Marathons that I sold looked good with no cracks or defects showing. Scrub em up and throw em on CL, they are probably worth tank of fuel at minimum. 5 Carlisle HD o new 16" wagon wheels $844- $200 for old stuff $644 Not bad.
