Vanco is no different than any other LT tire maker when it comes to loading a question to get the desired answer when it come to tire replacement or tire selection wording. Same with Michelin who didn't recommend the XPS Ribs for replacing ST tires on a trailer when FastEagle loaded the liability question at them as JJ did. Both received the same type answer.
Vanco tire owners report Vanco gave the thumbs up on using their tires on a their trailers. Why play those silly liability games with emails is beyond me.
I'm more interested in recommending a "good" tire that other members/trailer owners report having great service and no ST tire type issues. If JJ or anyone has a link regarding liability issues for using a Vanco or any LT tire on a trailer please post it.
JJ has posted his email before and got this responSe from our Barry Smith (CapriRacer) our resident tire engineer.CapriRacer wrote:
For those who are wondering about the responses from Continental:
First, you have to realize that answering questions for non-standard fitments opens the door to legal liabilities. Any deviation from what is listed on the vehicle tire placard creates an opportunity for some enterprising lawyer. Tire manufacturers are fully aware of this and will be incredibly cautious about what the say - and especially about what they will "recommend".
Second, the tire in question is a "C type" tire - the European equivalent of an LT type tire. It can be used on trailers, but care has to be taken regarding loading. The way Continental worded their comment indicates that they want YOU to do the homework. THEY don't want to be held liable for a mis-application.
first of all there was no loaded question on my part to get a desired answer, that is just plain ludicrous and I resent the remark!!!
I never mentioned, brought up, or suggested anything about liability…
Any fears about labiality they have as a company are fears they have justified, and for the same reason you should consider what they might be…
But the tire mfg. final word wasn’t do your homework at all nor did it sound like you be your own judge, it was a flat out rejection to the idea and I quote,
the Vanco line is not a suitable alternative.
there was a poster that posed a loaded question to his insurance company about using non recommended tires… but please don’t equate me with that and I challenged him about his bogus question as well as the bogus answer to…
