Try this;
• You are out of gas
• You have a 2011 F150 with that fancy filer tube, that needs no gas cap
• You have 5 gallons in one of those new containers with a safety spouts that must be depresses.
• You are alone and need to pour the gas into the tank
How would you do it?
Well,
• First you discover that the nozzle on the gas container will not fit the gas tank filler to open the gate valve, so you dig under the seat for the Ford approved filler funnel.
• Once you insert the filler funnel you discover that you cannot pour the gas out of the container unless you depress the gas container's pour spout.
• Holding the 40 lbs. of gas container chest high with both hands while directing the spout over gas filler funnel you use your third hand to press the containers pour spout back so the gas can spill out of the small Ford funnel which is setting almost perpendicular to the vehicle.
• Finally by simply using your fourth hand to hold a larger funnel into the smaller funnel, while your third hand presses back the container spout being held chest high by your other two hands. You fill you tank and vow never to run out of gas again.
Returning home you operate on the gas container's spout incase you forget your recent vow.
If pouring gas into a tank is this difficult for someone, they should stay home. In fact, they have a duty to stay home. If life is that hard for them, they are a danger to themselves and others, and should not be allowed to drive tons of steal, aluminum, wood, and plastic down the road.
The weight could be a tiny issue to some. Most of us will have a difficult time with 40lbs at some point in our life for whatever reason.
So with $8 and a tiny bit of foresight, you can have a siphon hose.
Carrying 5 to 10 extra gallons is just really not that hard or crazy. It's smart even.
And gas cans don't automatically explode on contact. Hollywood got that wrong. People have been transporting fuel this way for decades.
Weight on the rear of the trailer MIGHT be an issue. Depends on lots of factors. But not always. I noticed zero difference when I removed my rear mounted 4000w Gen from my TT. I'd wager that weighed more than a couple cans of gas.
