I am getting closer to selling my Fifth Wheel TH and going with a Truck Camper. My DW, while she likes to camp just can not see doing it for longer that a week at a time (or shorter). For me I would pick up and leave now if I could. So, here is my question of the day. How do those of you that have a Cassette type Toilet like them? Are the a pain to dump and also how long can you go between having to dump it? Also which type of Toilet would you rather have in a TC?If my plans work out I plan on heading to Sturgis this year. The camp ground that I am looking does not have hook ups. I know that most would use the port potties at but not good for me. I am still recovering from Colon Cancer Surgery so I have the need to have MY OWN HEAD available at all times. Thanks Everyone

I have a cassette toilet and absolutely would not have anything else. How long between dumps? -- well the answer is contained in the question.Very easy to empty and clean anywhere there is a regular toilet, or in an emergency, a hole in the ground.

Be sure you consider the weight of a full cassette. Is cassette access port in the TC at a comfortable height for you to lift this much weight? If not, you will have to dump before it is full.

We had one in a pop-up years ago and it worked out very well. If I was looking for a pickup camper that wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Before I would buy a TC with a pathetic sized black tank, I would rather have a cassette for the ease and portability of dumping. I mean whats the difference between a 8-10 gallon permanent black tank (like some TCs have) or a 6 gallon cassette? They both have to get dumped often but the cassette would be more convenient to dump.For me I will stick with my 45 gallon black tank.

It is usually a much cleaner operation than the old fellows peeing all over the floor when standing at the toilet.

+1 Such a simple thing to prevent splashback. Probably also minimizes the odor.

I think a dumping manual is needed.:)

Yup. Had the air valve open. Followed the instructions exactly as written. If I did it wrong it was because of poor documentation, not lack of due diligence on my part. I do not "cowboy it" when it comes to human waste.

You must have magical toilet water that doesn't splash when you drop something in it.

Do you guys hold the cassette at head height or something to get maximum splashback?

Also, when dumping in a pit toilet, the poo level is really far down (usually about 8 feet or so). If your cassette has contents that cause a splashback from that distance, you need to check your diet.

Sorry you guys... Don't mean to be critical of dumping a cassette down toilets. Even that stupid corrugated sewer hose is hard to rinse clean and be 100% sanitary.

Somehow the corrugated hose is going by bye someday. I want a smooth hose, whatever it is, it will rinse better and be more sanitary. If that means a macerator pump then that is what it will be.

I just don't want the second task of having to pump a cassette and deal with a sewer hose too. If I can do it all in one clean step that is what it will be.

I don't dump smelly grey water out anywhere except in a septic/ sewer dump station. Do everything in one efficient process.

One reason for having all holding tanks is to avoid dirty public restrooms. I never go in those. So gross some are. Some have no soap and what soap they do have is usually a watered down version of some sort of bubbly bs. that does not clean.
