Cassette toilet/shower

Some people are going to think I'm insane but....I'm spending the off season modifying our truck camper. Ripped out the wet bath and the black tank. I replaced the toilet with a cassette type. The logic is this: We have a few spots we go in BC on our way to Alaska. These are places we stay for 2-3 weeks and they are far from the Highway and services. The black tank filled too fast to do us a lot of good and there's no place to dump...so the cassette, which will allow dumping in an outhouse if needed. The shower was really just too little to use, we both agreed, so I built an enclosure for the outside shower, some pvc and two or three shower curtains, plenty of privacy if needed, although at most of our spots it's not an issue, there's hardly anyone around. The extra room I found behind the fiberglass shower/toilet enclosure was impressive. Makes the bathroom easier to get in and out of and the extra storage is critical when we are on the road for 6 months at a time. She won't let me redo the kitchen cabinets, yet, but I can see quite a bit of space behind them...

I'm posting this in case anyone is thinking of the same kind of things, if anyone has done it and has insight, and just to gather thoughts. The bathroom I rebuilt with thin t&g from HD and actually saved some weight! Removing the black tank means no step up into the bathroom which DW hated. Easier to clean too as we can just take the toilet out for a minute to clean it and the bathroom floor.

  • Yup you are insane, bad idea, nobody would do it, a waste of time.

Now that you are done yours you can do mine as well.

Northern Lite now offers the cassette option as well. Makes a lot of sense to me, plus you can use the toilet in the winter without adding water to the TCer. For many it would be a bad idea, but if it works for you then go for it as the main thing about camping is to get what you want in the camper!

Pictures would be great, what model of TCer do you have?

My OFF-ROAD POPUP camper has the cassette/shower combo and it works out well for the two of us. The shower works best with you sitting down on the potty lid and using the hand shower. Mine has the shower curtain you can pull around the whole assy...

The potty tank is a 6 gallon two wheeled tote and is easy to pull out from the outside and dump down any bath room you find along the trail. Easy tote to dump... Most OFF-ROAD places we go to has a primitive bath room usually at the entrance. We just dump our cassette tote down their pot.

This is what mine looks like

I really wish I had the potty version only as we usually just wash up at the kitchen sink... The POTTY only version would save us alot of room...

  • Pictures or it didn't happen. ;) Seriously though, pictures would be nice for others as well. I like my current setup, but my holding tanks are probably a lot larger than yours.
