It is about size, noise and safety. The very safest are oil filled. I use 3 small ones that draw about 462 watts each. They happen to be the quietest as well. I have them tucked into unused corners that would otherwise be wasted space.
Why do I consider them the safest? Because the surface temperature on the heater is the lowest of all the types.
