Depends upon the transmission in the truck. Usually GM recommends a filter and fluid change at 100k miles for the transmissions used with their gas engine powered trucks and SUV's. GM also has the concept of severe duty which means lot of stop and go driving or lots of towing as in your case.
With my 2500HD the transmission fluid change interval is reduced by 75% for severe duty. I only tow about half the miles so I split the difference and change the fluid on the Allison every 25K miles with the Allison approved TES 389 fluid. At the next fluid change I will be not having the dealer doing it so I can use TES 395 fluid instead and increase the service interval to every 75K miles. The Chevy dealership does not stock TES 395 ATF as they would rather I was in three times as often getting it changed along with the external filter.
There are two types of ATF in general use and they are not interchangeable and the wrong type can cause problems with the transmission seals.
