Being the rather fearful owner of a RAM with the dreaded 47RE 4spd auto I consider changing the trans oil every time I even think about starting the truck. I change the trans oil every spring and fall, right after our bi annual tow. The trans oil is always burnt to crap, stinky and dark, dark, dark. Can't afford to rebuild the POC so I just keep nursing her along. I know that a new trans rebuild and a TC are in the near future - I am just trying to prolong the inevitable. I don't think that you would lose out by changing the oil in your trans. Don't flush it though, just change the oil and pump out the TC through the return line so you get a complete change out of the oil.
