The warnings about a small charge line are important. To get a full charge, heavy gauge wire and a non-limiting solenoid/relay are needed. You said you have a diesel, but not which brand. Here's what I did in my GMC (charge wire is 2 gauge). Something similar would probably work in other trucks.
