What I think about heavy cables connected by straight relay to truck system is that when you have dual batteries in camper depleted to 10V and the relay kicks in - the camper batteries will take truck system down to 10V and kill the computers.
For this you sure want battery combiner that will protect the truck.
The small factory wire protects the system by its own resistance.
The small factory wire is not going to protect anything , it will only slow the process of either discharging the truck battery or charging the house battery . Assuming the truck is running when the relay (continuous duty solenoid ) closed you will also be pumping in 14v+ at the same time . In your scenario the batteries will start to equalize , but not instantaneously . If you run the house battery down to 10v you are already on your way to ruining them . 12v would be approximately 50 soc at room temperature .
