2020 1500HD? Are they bringing them back? IIRC they discontinued the 1500HD when they did the 2007 body change, and depending on the engine and options of which there were a lot of configurations, the payload on the 1500HD could have been up at around 3K lbs or over. - falconbrotherExplorer IIActually I was referring to the mid 2000's models but 2020 works.

If you are talking late 90's to 2007 6.0/4L80E trucks
The 2500 is the same as a 1500HD
The 2500 became the 1500HD
They had a semi floating 9.5 inch rear end.
They were an 8200lbs gross weight truck.
The 2500HD 6.0/4l80E trucks had a full floating 10.5 inch 14 bolt rear end.
They were a 9200lbs gross weight truck.
The rear section of the frame was larger. - blt2skiModerator1500HD as Mike noted, is for all intents and purposes, an 8600 gvwr 2500 C6P heavy payload, with a 1500 badging to 8200 gvwr.
If you have access to buying one, need a truck that can carry 3000 lbs plus or minus 200-300 lbs in good shape etc, go for it! I would have no issues toting a 10-12 k trailer behind it, as long as I could stay with in axle ratings if around 9500 lbs total iirc. 6000 rear, 3500 or so for front.

- wowens79Explorer IIII've got a 2002 1500HD with 231,000 miles on it. I bought it new, and it's been a great truck. Payload I think is 1875lbs, and tow capacity is 10k. It does a pretty good job pulling my TT that is about 8,000 lbs loaded. You end up in 3rd gear on the interstate at about 3000 rpms.
I keep thinking about getting a new truck, but they are so expensive, and this one just keeps on going. - guidryExplorerA pop up small trailer vs a nice TT with lots of room and amenities. That’s the difference between the two trucks.
- falconbrotherExplorer IIWell, I've had two Chevrolets a truck and the Suburban. Neither time was I looking to buy a Chevy and both have been very good vehicles. Both times I was looking at other brands and found a deal too good to pass on. I think I am becoming a fan of Chevy. My grandfather was a "Ford man". When I was a kid I would listen to him argue with other farmers about which truck was best. When he died in 1986 he still had a sweet 1969 F100. My dad, having left the farm for the university, sold that old truck. Being enamored with an old truck wasn't within his reality paradigm. Somehow I got all the redneck. I wish I had that old truck. It would be my daily driver. Nevertheless, I have come to believe that there ain't a dimes worth of difference between Chevy and Ford. Both have made awesome trucks and a few losers. Nevertheless, I see 1500HD's around and that plays into my wheelhouse, as they say. I wrench on my own cars and trucks unless it requires removing engine, transmission or differential. Not because I can't but, my neighbors would freak. And I wouldn't blame them.
