chevy suburban

i am planning to purchase a chevy suburban to tow my travel trailer - some come with rear "barn doors" and some with hatch type - any recommendations or preferences on which is better?
  • On our X the bottom half are barn door type and I like it that way but they open while hooked to the TT. Our pickup tail gate won't go down because of the jack. To me opening the back when hooked to the TT is a must.
  • Preference is all yours, but I can tell you that the barn doors have a tendency to rust out more easily than the tailgate units on the older generations so check out the door bottoms carefully! My 98 C2500 TV had the tailgate/glass hatch and my current 04 Yukon XL 2500 has the upswing hatch with separately opening glass. Either configuration permits access into the cargo area while hitched because the glass could always be opened, but often the trailer tongue jack keeps you from opening the tailgate or full hatch or the barn doors (had those too).
