Choices of TV for a family of 6

The kids are 5-9 now, but growing fast ! TT is max (loaded) weight of 8500 lbs. SWMBO does not like vans.

Is there a 6 passenger pickup any more or are we limited to Expedition/Suburban ?

It's an Internet thing, not just a RV thing. It's on all different kinds of forums.

Anyhoo, I'm pretty sure there are 6 seater trucks still. Not all have the console with the shifter in it. My 2011 XLT has the flip console in the front and it is not a stripped down work model.
  • There are 6 passenger pick-ups but they are rare; they are typically the stripped down work model trucks. I prefer that style myself since the rubber floor and vinyl seats are much easier to clean than carpet and cloth. Also, when I get in we after launching or loading the boat the water isn't such a big deal.
For just hauling the family I would think a 2500 Suburban would be a great choice. They stopped making them in 2013 but you can still find used one around.
You could have someone build you a custom 6 door pick-up with 3 rows of seats. There's a guy with one of those near where I live. I see it around town occasionally. I forget how many kids he has but it's a bunch. Centurion vehicles would probably build one.
  • You can get a pick up with a flip up console creating a front bench seat allowing for 6 passengers.
However a full size van makes a great tow vehicle with lots of passenger space vs. a pick up, even if its cool factor is low.
  • Back in the day we had 4 kids in the slide in camper and a Black Lab dog as well (not a cab over camper) and Mom and Dad up front in a 1971 F250 reg cab long bed. We were towing a 26' Taurus bunkhouse TT..

Not even a crawl thru! Had zero communication with the parents.. If you had to pee.. There was always the Folgers coffee can..

I was the oldest and only boy. The others were girls (obviously) that were 3 and 5 years younger than me. (My sister and 2 "cousins")

It was actually really fun for us kids and we traveled thousands of miles that way. We had a center table, bunks on each side of the camper, an ice box fridge, closet stocked with snacks and lots of board games. We would play Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble, Battleship, you name it, we had it..

Plus, I would smuggle my cassette player with 4 D size batteries and we would have tunes! (Dad did not want us having "electronics" since we were "camping".. ha, ha!) Smuggled other stuff too in my teens.. ha, ha!! ;)

Anyway, I know that's not how it's done these days and I understand that.. Just brought up some good memories of our 4 kid traveling days back in the day and just wanted to share..

  • I did 3000 miles in my 96 CC GM when my kids were 10-16, smallest was 5'6", tallest two were 5'16". We weighed a total of 1200 lbs or so........

Vans are nicer IMHO! I'll take a CC over an SUV! You will have to get something other than a leather interior, as those only can sit 5 in a Crew cab. A cloth seat GM will seat 6.

  • My 2014 Chevy 3500 Duramax Dually long-bed crew cab pick-up truck comfortably seats 6 people. The front seat center console flips up and the front seat becomes a full front seat bench seat. The back seat sits 3 adults comfortable. The vehicle has 4 full doors, not half doors in the back or back door that can be opened only when the front door is open. Plus, what remains is the full 8 foot bed of the pick-up truck. And yes, I've had 6 full adults in the truck before.

If you were to order a new truck, you can get it customized with any kind of seats you want (within limits of course). Examples of seats: Click here.
  • There's 2 other identical threads in the next 2 pages.
But yeah, big SUV, van or cram them all into a crew cab. No magical options on the market since last week...
