Lots of interesting opinions on this topic. I especially like the kook who apparently doesn't like Dodge/Ram/Fiat trucks, but spends a lot of time and effort talking about them.
As the OP, I can tell you the diminished value claim is happening. When the truck is fixed, and the claim is settled, I can let everyone know the outcome (win or lose) (dollar amount) for this particular truck. The impact lifted the bed off of the frame and pushed it into both sides of the cab denting both sides. The front of the truck is damaged from being pushed into the F150 in front of me which had a hitch/ball protruding from the receiver. There is a lot of damage not visible from the few pictures I posted.
After the truck was disassembled for the body shop to provide it's estimate, they discovered the hitch took the blow after the bumper and tailgate intrusion. The hitch itself bent, but didn't damage the frame.
Bottom line, the truck kept the four kids relatively safe (seat belt abrasion, cut lip). I'll thank my devalued, run of the mill, headed for the scrap heap in a few years Dodge truck for that.
