How do you clean power awnings? They all look like they stick straight out, or is there a way to drop them down for access. We camp where there are lots of leaves and pine needles that fall onto the awning. Our manual awning we can just shorten the arms dropping the front and that allows us to sweep the leaves off before rolling the awning shut.

I use a sponge mop with a long extension pole meant for a paint roller

Use some soapy water. With the awning out, mop it down top and bottom as best you can. Roll it up still soapy and let it sit rolled up for 15-20 mins. Roll out and mop again. Rinse off.

We can lower ours a couple feet to clean it, not as low as a manual but it is better than straight out.

I wash the bottom fully extended. I wash the top a couple feet at a time. Start all the way out,; get on a ladder; scrub it clean as far as I can reach. Roll it up a to the next dirty part and repeat until done. Once complete, unroll it, final rinse, and dry.

HaHa! I am just looking at new trailers and see that many have the power awnings. My Hilo still has the good old fashion manual type. Just trying to get educated.

When my electric awning is used properly, as you close it the leaves/needles fall off as it goes.

There was the time my wife hit the "Extend" button while it was already extended and it rolled up in a way that would trap anything on top of the awning.

Not all electric awnings are the same. The older style basically stuck straight out while the newer ones are slanted down and most newer ones also give you manual adjustment on each side to lower it some more.

Maybe a picture of your awning would help some of us in answering your question.

Maybe a small yard blower (gas or elec) to keep all the stuff off the top. As others have stated, you can lower it some then blow off the top and roll up.

I know how to clean it, I just want to know if you can drop it enough, like a manual awning, to knock the loose stuff off before leaving the campsite. I don't plan on carrying a stepladder all the time I'm camping.

I use one of those "Swiffer" dry mops. But instead of using it dry I dip it into a bucket of soapy water. Liquid laundry detergent seems to work very well. The mop is very light and because of the way it attaches to the handle, it always stays in contact with the awning as I sweep it around on the awning.

My awning allows you to drop either side down a foot or so lower than the other. Helps shed leaves and won't let water collect. Just remember to release the down side prior to rolling up the awning.
