No, surge brakes do not work properly with a WDH. The OP thinks tongue weight will be about 500 lbs - That should be possible without a WDH but will require a Class V receiver to handle that weight with an extension.
It's not that the OP NEEDS a WD hitch...but it would shift some axle weight forward, which should help the handling.
We use an Equalizer brand WD hitch with our Airstream...why do you think a WD hotch would not work w/surge brakes?
I am trying to picture this....I don't see why not? Ultimately you just put the hitch on the ball? Why would surge matter?
