I've found anything over 400 is a pretty long day. I've done a 420 trip a few times (from home to Florida), and that's about the max I would like to do.
Good to hear your 9K trailer tows well with the 1500. I had a 6800lb trailer and my Sierra 1500, and that was about as high as I wanted to go. I upgraded to a Ram 2500 CTD and a low 9K trailer and I couldn't imagine towing it with a Ram 1500 (had one of those awhile back as well). Even with my 2500 Cummins, I know it's back there.
It's interesting how much towing wears on you. Constantly vigilant, looking all around, paying attention when vehicles pass etc. My first trip, I was like, 'yeah, right', I travel 900 miles via car quite frequently... no problem'. Well, it was a totally different animal. By the time I got close to my destination at 400 miles, I was ready for it to be over.
I don't want to push it past that, and I don't want to become complacent on the road, so that will be the max for me.
