It's a buyers market, give them no deposit. Just send them an e-mail saying your interested, they will hold it forever, because they have an email from someone they have never laid eyes on. There is no one else in the world that would buy it anyway. That's why you are making a multistate trip to buy it, you are the only buyer out there in this buyer's market. The dealer has your verbal commitment of interest, that's more than enough in a buyer's market.

Take it home, use it for a few years and when the market finally changes to a "seller's market" start thinking about paying them for it.
