JMO, but I think what happens out there is that there are many configurations and dimensions of black tanks and unless you've had to deal with one of the "difficult" ones, you won't know what it's like.
On our first TT we never, ever had an issue with dumping or false readings. It had more of a cube shape with drain more in the center (as opposed to an end). If you look at the diagram above, there's only about 4 1/2" from our toilet to tank bottom. Doesn't take much poop there to block more from getting in and the poop doesn't magically dissolve or flow around. With our current TT, unless I make a real effort to clean it as thoroughly as possible, it builds up the poop pyramid quickly. I know someone who has the same TT as us and has the same issue.
I don't clean ours because of residual effluent or odor, it's to minimize false readings and make the most room available for it's next use. I'm sure some can't take the thought of something remaining in the tank because of odor and sanitary reasons.
